The Non-Resident Landlord (NRL) Scheme Explained
If you spend more than six months of the year living outside the UK, HMRC generally considers you a non-resident landlord.
Under the Non-Resident Landlord (NRL) Scheme, letting agents are normally required to deduct basic rate tax from your rental income before passing it on to you, unless HMRC has approved your application to receive your rent in full.
Without this approval, tax must be deducted at source and paid directly to HMRC.
